
Our History
Woodlawn Funeral Home was opened by Carol Carothers and her husband Ronnie Lineberger on January 25, 2000 on the property which was the former St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mount Holly , North Carolina .
Carol's family had been in funeral service since 1928, when her great uncle Ervin S. Carothers founded Carothers Funeral Homes in Gastonia . In later years, her grandfather J.C. Carothers, Sr. and another great uncle E. Woodrow Carothers, bought the business from Ervin. The one location in Gastonia , NC later expanded to Belmont , N.C. , Mt. Holly , N.C. and Stanley , NC
Later, under the guidance of the second generation of owners, Carol's father, J.C. “Buddy” Carothers, Jr. and mother Phyllis M. Carothers, the business continued to grow with the purchase of Dallas Funeral Home in Dallas , NC and York Funeral Home in York , S.C. The entire Carothers organization was sold to a conglomerate in 1990.
Carol is a graduate of Ashbrook High School in Gastonia , UNC-Greensboro, and holds an MBA from Phieffer University .
Ronnie's career in funeral service began when he was 16 years old, working part – time with Carothers Funeral Homes. He graduated from East Gaston High School in Mt. Holly and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He managed Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley from 1976- 1999. Carol and Ronnie are members of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Gastonia . Carol and Ronnie have five daughters, a grandson Andy, and a granddaughter Kelsey
Their philosophy from the inception of Woodlawn Funeral Home has and will continue to be to serve each and every family in a compassionate manner.
Since the opening of Woodlawn Funeral Home we have proudly served over 1350 families.
